Though I read it decades ago, it was time to read Corrie ten Boom’s beautiful classic, The Hiding Place. This an is autobiographical tale about her time as a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp — an inspiring story of faith put into action.
The writer from Salt and Light on Facebook said something to the affect of, “Our faith isn’t proven when our prayers are answers; our faith is proven when our prayers AREN’T answered but we still trust in God.” This really spoke to me because although Corrie’s sister and father died in the concentration camp, though she had prayed her heart out, she still had faith in God.
This book is precious to me because a nurse brought me this book when I was in the hospital while pregnant with my first baby. It looked like I was going to have a miscarriage, and a nurse named Jody witnessed to me and gave me a copy of The Hiding Place. While she was visiting with me, I gave my heart to the Lord.
I was in the hospital for forty-eight days while Jody, other nurses, and some of her friends from her church brought gifts, encouraged me, and discipled me. Mark was born, only weighing two pounds, and lived for less than a day.
Though devastated, I learned that God could still be trusted even though our hopes and dreams are dashed and our prayers don’t appear to have been answered.
