When writing historical fiction, it is very important to get facts correct. Careful research is crucial. For my book Small-Town Independence: Looking Back, I read every fiction and nonfiction book on coal mines I could get my hands on. I visited numerous places such as the Lackawanna Anthracite Museum in Scranton, Jim Thorpe, Eckley Miners Village.
I belong to the Luzerne County Historical Society and have gone to events and lectures they have. I also had to research the Gilded Age as well as the dress, homes, vehicles, ships, etc. of that time period. I have a whole binder full of research that I did in order to write this book
